Bali Botanic Garden in 360°

Above Lake Bratan extends the Kebun Raya Botanic Gardens covering an area of around 130 hectares (325 acres). They are beautifully laid out, with trees, shrubs and plants from many parts of Asia. From various points in the gardens there are fine views of Lake Bratan and the surrounding hills.

1. What to see

Orchid garden is located at side of administrative office, about 800 meters from main gate. The collection contains wild Indonesian orchids species mainly from the mountain forests of Bali, Java, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi and Papua. In Bali, most orchids flower from March until June, however, there are always some species flowering.

The cactus collection is located in a big glasshouse near the office. They were obtained from collection in Africa, America, Germany, Switzerland and Indonesia. Most cactus are very thick and succulent (fleshy), some very spiny and others very hairy. Many species have beautiful and colorful flowers.

2. When to see

Bali Botanic Garden is open daily 8am-5pm except on Nyepi day.

3. Location
4. How to get there

Most tourists visit Bali on a package tour that includes an option to select from a range of excursions. If travelling on your own, probably the easiest way is to rent a car with a driver for an entire day.  It is not recommended to drive on your own in Indonesia due to the general negligance of driving rules. Singposts are written with Latin alphabet, but it might be difficult to find remote places on your own.

5. Where to stay

There are plenty of hotels to stay in Bali, the best beaches can be found at Kuta, Sanur and Nusa Dusa. If you prefer sightseeing, Sanur area is highly recommended since it has the best location to avoid the traffic jams of Denpasar.
