Donizetti Museum and Santa Grata in 360°

The museum housed in a Renaissance palace commemorates Gaetano Donizetti, a famous opera composer born in Bergamo in 1797.

Opera fans can see his piano, manuscripts and even his deathbed where he succumbed to syphilis in 1848. The entire city is packed with monuments dedicated to him: his tomb is also to be found in the Santa Maria Maggiore church and the main theatre in the Lower Town is also named after him. Since the museum was closed on our visit to Bergamo at the end of February 2012, we could only take 360° panoramic images of the beautiful courtyard and the exterior frescoes of the nearby Santa Grata monastery.
